Abstract

Volume V, Traffic Control Devices, covers the body of the ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable’s standards on traffic control devices for highways and bikeways.

These standards were developed in order to establish the traffic control requirements of the Ministère, some of which are mandatory. Thus, under section 289 of the Québec Highway Safety Code, any person in charge of managing or maintaining public highways must comply with the standards of this volume where such an obligation is indicated.

The present volume comprises three parts. Part 1 covers general dispositions, regulatory signs and warnings. Part 2 presents road work signs, and Part 3 focuses on indication signs, including directions to certain roads and touristic circuits, pavement markings, bicycle path signs and traffic lights.

This volume serves to standardize the use of traffic control devices in order to make them easier to understand and increase road safety.

It is an essential tool for people in charge of installing and maintaining traffic control devices, both within the ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable and within municipalities and organizations responsible for public highways and bikeways.
